Hydrocarbon exploration in Guyana offshore is gradually extending from the deep-water 'Golden Lane' to shallow-water areas. Hydrocarbons generated from Cajie source rock and migrate upward into shallow waters and accumulate to form reservoirs. Turbidites,Channel complexes and incised valleys are possible exploration leads in the shallow-water area, New 3D seismic data are needed to map the possible leads. |

The Carapa-1 well in the survey area, targeting Cretaceous deepwater channel-fan sands, encountered net oil pay. The discovery supports the significant potential of an extension of the Guyana-Suriname "Gold lane" Cretaceous play southwards up onto the present-day shelf. Jethro-1 oil discovery in the survey area also significantly de-risks Tertiary age prospects in the the present-day shelf.
