On November 2, BGP Tajikistan set a new industry benchmark by reaching 2 million safe work hours without an LTI during the 2D seismic exploration project in the Bogda Block.
The Bogda Block in Tajikistan faces multiple safety challenges due to its terrain and climate conditions: 75% of the survey lines traverse untouched, roadless mountains; 50% of the region has slopes exceeding 30 degrees covered with sharp rocks; while some operational points are near 2,000 meters in altitude. Operations are exposed to hazards such as mountain floods, collapse risks, and risks posed by icy or muddy roads. Every phase of work involves multiple safety risks.
To address these risks, BGP implemented five major control measures targeting transportation, mountain operations, explosive handling, helicopter operations, and community security. The project established a closed-loop management process covering “hazard identification – assessment – control – implementation”. By developing targeted prevention measures with clearly assigned responsibilities, the project ensures the continuous elimination of hazards. Additionally, innovative drone technology was deployed to identify risk points.
This milestone was achieved through a shared safety culture, rigorous management, and smart technology, and the project has delivered valuable HSE practices for BGP's overseas mountain operations.
