BGP entered into the Oman market in 2003 and, BGP commenced working for Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in 2004, a company majorly owned by the Omani government that also has the Shell Group, Total and Partex as shareholders. PDO is internationally recognized for its distinctive HSSE management, development and application of geophysical technologies. Meanwhile BGP’s business success provided employment for Oman nationals, further enhancing the economic prosperity of China and Oman.

Since 2004, BGP Oman has completed over 60 projects in 25 blocks, acquired seventy-five million (75,000,000) shots, covered a working area of eight-three thousand (83,000) square kilometers, about 27.1% of the territory of Oman.

Having been working continuously for the past 18 years with PDO, BGP Crew 8622 was given the opportunity to grow in both size and capabilities. BGP developed new technologies and advanced equipment under this sustained partnership, expanding from a 4500 channels of recording system in 2004 to over 60,000 channels in 2015 (the largest channel count in the world), with more than 30,000 nodal system operation in 2021 and extending daily operating time from 12 to 24 hours and increasing daily productivity from 2,000 to 50,000 VP’s. This ever-increasing scope of work enabled BGP to reduce the cost of operations for clients while providing a steady stream of employment opportunities for Omani citizens.

Projects for PDO throughout the years have incentivized BGP to initiate advances in seismic acquisition technologies such as: wide azimuth, high channel count, DSSS and blended acquisition, etc. Other major oil companies have favorably adopted these technologies also.

Highlights

In 2023, over 18 years, BGP Oman established a deeply ingrained “Safety First and All Incidents are Preventable” culture of safety that not only gave rise to high productivity but also achieved a safety milestone of 35 million Man Hours without LTI, reaching a total of 18 years LTI FREE with the safety driving distance of over 68 million Km.

So far, the crew has achieved more than 80% localization of its workforce. Many Omani citizens are currently employed in positions such as Party Managers, Supervisors and various technical positions ever since BGP began training and preparing the local citizens in management and technical areas ten (10) years ago.

BGP’s concerted long-term efforts have been recognized by the Omani government and PDO with the issuance of a “Best Enterprise Award” by the Oman National Worker’s Union in 2012 as well as a “Superior Achievement for Environmental Protection Award” in 2013 awarded to the BGP Warehouse located in the city of Adam by its local government.
